In conjunction with the organizing of NICE by Ministry Of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI); we have an exciting and comprehensive program targeted to all Malaysians. The overall theme of our convention is “Ensuring the Safety, Security and Safeguards of Nuclear and Radioactive Materials :Our Roles”. We have a line of prominent speakers from various agencies, universities and industries in Malaysia and speakers from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (Vienna, Austria), Department of Energy (United States of America) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (United States of America). The convention will be divided into four parallel sessions with specific topics especially for each target group:
Session 1: Towards a Knowledgeable Society Targeted to the public, students and media with to bring forward the correct and factual information on nuclear and radioactive materials, radiation and nuclear activities, the efforts to ensure the safety of Malaysia and what the public should know and can do to further increase the level of safety and security of these activities in Malaysia.
Session 2: Enhancing Self-Compliance and Safety & Security Culture Our licensees or the users of radiation technologies in Malaysia had abided with high standard of safety, in line with international standards but it should not stop there. Users should continue to strive to the highest standard, even set the new standard to be adopted by others as the international standard. This session is targeted to all the users of nuclear and radiation technology where sharing of knowledge and experience will assist towards this effort.
Session 3: Strengthening Technical Capability and Competency of Enforcement Agencies towards higher Safety and Security New technology and capacity building are among the ways can be taken to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of an enforcement agency especially in monitoring the security of nuclear and radioactive materials either in nuclear installation or at the Malaysian international borders. This session will present the technologies that can be utilized, capacity building opportunities either in Malaysia, in this region or internationally in carrying out the enforcement task to control and monitor nuclear and radioactive material.
Session 4: Safeguarding Peaceful Nuclear and Nuclear-Related Activities Malaysia is one of the emerging high technology industrial producer countries in the world… and to safeguard our inalienable rights to nuclear technology we have to safeguard our technology, products and components against misuse i.e. used to proliferate nuclear weapons program or as weapons of mass destruction. This session will present Malaysia’s commitment to non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the country’s effort to safeguard nuclear and nuclear-related technology to ensure it is used ONLY for peaceful purposes.
As this is the first outreach program to the industries, we will held a Forum to discuss on issues of reporting and control and to share the industries concerns and questions on how to effectively fulfill our international obligations while ensuring the interest of the industries and research institutions are also fulfilled.
