MENTERI SAINS, TEKNOLOGI DAN INOVASI MALAYSIA

MINISTER OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION MALAYSIA

MALAYSIA AND INDONESIA SEAL PACT ON SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL COOPERATION
Formalisation of Cooperation between Malaysia’s Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation’s (MOSTI) agencies and Indonesian counterparts

JAKARTA, 19 July, 2008 – Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation’s (MOSTI) agencies today signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with three Indonesian counterparts for scientific and technological cooperation. The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia Datuk Dr. Maximus Ongkili and the Deputy Minister of Research, Science and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Dr Teguh Rahardjo witnessed the MoU signing ceremony.

Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) and Badan Pengawasan Tenaga Nuklir (BAPETEN)

The cooperation with Indonesia’s BAPETEN is expected to enhance AELB’s human capital competency through the exchange of technical and scientific knowledge and expertise with the ultimate aim of ensuring higher nuclear safety standards in Malaysia. The MoU between AELB (an agency under MOSTI) and BAPETEN (an agency directly under the President of Indonesia) is the catalyst to further cooperation’s on nuclear safety and radiation protection between regulatory agencies in ASEAN and Asia Pacific. AELB and BAPETEN are regulatory bodies entrusted to ensure the safety and security of nuclear activities, such as monitoring and controlling illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials, in Malaysia and Indonesia respectively.

MIMOS and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Bandung

MIMOS will leverage ITB’s deep knowledge in radio frequency, fast electronics and semiconductor technology, design and fabrication to develop collaborative projects in photonic technology based information security. The two organisations are currently in discussion on design for photo detector electronics and design for light polarisation state controller projects.

MIMOS and Institut Teknologi Sepuloh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya

MIMOS will leverage ITS strength in the field of theoretical and experimental physics and engineering physics. Two projects in the pipeline currently are non-linear optics and design for low-signal optical switching projects.

MIMOS and Universitas Indonesia (UI)

MIMOS and UI will encourage and promote cooperation in research and development in the field of information and communications technology, especially in the micro-electro mechanical systems field. The cooperation will cover three projects areas namely non-invasive FEF moisture sensor, humidity sensor and MEMS spectrometer

Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) & Surfactant and Bioenergy Research Centre (SBRC)

The collaboration between MIGHT and SBRC is to accelerate the development and commercialization of Jatropha, bio-fuel and renewal energy industries. The collaboration paves the way for more business opportunities among Malaysia and Indonesian industry players in the renewal energy industry.

Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) & Biomac Corporation Sdn Bhd

The collaboration between MIGHT and Biomac Corporation is expected to result in the formulation of business model and plan for the establishment of a Jatropha Curcas nursery, plantation and processing plant as well as market development and commercialization of Jatropha Curcas plantation and biodiesel products.
